A summons is not an assessment, but it is the decisive moment to clear up discrepancies. Deadlines, documents and common mistakes.
A summons (citación) is how the Chilean IRS (SII) asks a taxpayer to file, correct, clarify or confirm a return. It is a key stage: what you prove here can prevent a later assessment.
The deadline is short
As a general rule, the taxpayer has one month to respond, extendable once if requested in time. Missing the deadline seriously limits your defense options.
Prepare the evidence
- Accounting records and supporting documents organized by period.
- Contracts and background explaining the nature of each transaction.
- A clear, well-reasoned written response addressing each point raised.
Common mistakes
Responding with partial information, submitting documents without explanation or accepting differences without analyzing their tax effect. A technical response, coordinated between accounting and legal counsel, makes the difference.
